The Big Bang Theory

Author: Jakshil Mehta

Introduction

The Big Bang Theory is a cosmological hypothesis regarding the origin of the universe. This theory was formulated by the Belgian cosmologist Sir George Lemaitre. According to this conceptual framework, about 15 billion years ago, the universe began its existence through a dramatic event, characterized as an explosion of fictitious elementary particles with properties beyond human understanding. Lamaitre's theory postulates that this explosion did not occur in pre-existing space, but rather, was an event where the space between interstellar galaxies expanded. This cosmic expansion, as envisioned by the theory, is believed to have begun the origin of the entire universe as we know it.
